Need for Conservation

The tiger is at the apex of the entire eco system in the forest. Presence of this large cat signifies the healthy pyramid that it needs for its survival. Protection of the tiger involves protection of the eco system. And a healthy ecosystem is what we in turn need for our own survival.

Increasing human population has resulted in higher biotic pressures on the forest. Illegal encroachment for agriculture, grazing on forest land, fire, illegal extraction of minor forest produce and logging have lead to massive degradation of wildlife habitat and corridors.

This fragmentation of habitat, poaching pressures, increasing trade, low prey base, man animal conflict and the unfocussed protection efforts on the ground are some of the major reasons for the decreasing wild tiger population.

Dwindling numbers of tigers in the wild and the increasing threats to this large predator is a stark reality which is difficult to ignore.

Unless efforts to protect this species is put in by all stake holders, we may loose this magnificent large cat from the wild forever.
