Joint Jungle Patrol

The man animal conflict has sharply increased again in Chandrapur Division in Central India with 6 human deaths and 1 injury in the last 3 months due to attacks from tigers and leopards. All these conflict cases have happened deep inside the forests not far from the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve.

One of the main reasons for these attacks is the intrusion of villagers into the forests areas for extraction of firewood and other minor forest produce.

January – March is the time of the year when most of the villagers are idle as the work on the paddy plantation is over and they utilize this time to collect firewood for their annual consumption.

Large carnivores move closer to human dwellings in this period following the herbivores which are lured by the second crop in the fields.

Intensive monitoring of these large carnivores and awareness drives in the villages is being done by the management of the Forest Department and TRACT.
