Conservation of Community & Forest: Sustainable Livelihood , Development and Co-Habitation In Buffer of Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra SUPPORTED BY VILLAGE SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION FOUNDATION (VSTF)
Village Social Transformation Mission (VSTM) is an initiative of Honourable Chief Minister and the Government of Maharashtra with an aim to transform 1000 villages in the State.
Village Social Transformation Foundation, a path-breaking public-private partnership between Government of Maharashtra and India’s leading corporates and philanthropic organisation to plug developmental gaps and establish greater social capital in rural Maharashtra.
GOAL
TRACT is an NGO partner to VSTF and has worked in 43 villages within the Buffer of Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra.
A total of 3900 families have benefited through this initiative.
The program was conducted with an aim to improve the living conditions of the local communities through development and amenities; to address employment challenges and their dependence on forest habitat. Skill training, education, addressing agriculture, water scarcity, infrastructure and more was done, while protecting environment and wildlife.
Works done by TRACT :
Creating baseline data for monitoring the intervention impacts.
Creating site specific micro plans for each village in participation with the community and the government machinery
Facilitating a rounded development in each village through convergence and support from the partner corporates
Building skills and capacity in local women and youth to ensure sustainable employment
Building a system to ensure peaceful co-habitation of people with the wildlife in the area
Creating capacity in local communities to address human - large carnivore conflict, ensuring their participation in mitigation
Creating awareness about need for re-greening, re-wilding, re-energising the water table, hygiene, sanitation
